Orbea, a Spanish bicycle manufacturer, has launched the Diem urban e-bike, a high-performing machine designed for urban use. The sleek diamond-shaped frame with an integrated lighting system has received several awards, including iF Design and Red Dot.
The Spanish bike manufacturer has almost 180 years of mass production experience, with the first half dedicated to gun manufacturing. It wasn’t until 1931 that the Basque-based company began manufacturing bicycles. The company was so intimately involved with racing bikes that the Tour of Space,
Vuelta a España started at the plant.
Orbea, a worker-owned company since the late 1960s, manufactures a wide range of motorcycles with high levels of modification and personalisation. The Diem is designed for commuter usage, with a lightweight frame and components
despite including a 540Wh or 630Wh battery, which provides a range of around 120km or 150km, respectively.
The business has used its extensive experience constructing racing bikes to create this electric variant. It retains high design and component quality standards to keep the Diem as light and efficient as possible.
The integrated wraparound lights, incorporated into the frame directly beneath the handlebars, increase visibility during the day and at night. The aluminium tube frame is hydro-formed to make the most of the material, and polished welds give the frame a smooth, seamless appearance.
Wide all-terrain tyres for any city roadway are also included, as is a special Spin Block system that prevents the handlebars from twisting all the way around, making the bike more stable while parked. There are brake lights at the back, as well as a selection of front and rear carrier systems and an adaptor that will work
with several renowned third-party suppliers.
A Shimano electric motor provides motive power with multi-stage assistance, and there is a specific app, mount, and integrated USB-C connector on the top tube.
All city bikes require adequate security systems. In addition to incorporating illumination that deters casual thefts, Orbea has included a unique area on the frame to conceal a tracker such as an Apple AirTag.
The Diem is available in three colours: Ivory White, Glitter Anthracite, and Spaceship Green, with frame sizes ranging from S to XL. In addition to the various pannier and rack systems, there are the handlebar, light strength, and seat post options, making this a fully adjustable model to add to the growing list of desirable e-bikes.
